image transfer and encaustic
INSTRUCTORs: sandra carrion & lois youman
Two-Day Workshop: October 4 & 5, 2019
FEE: $295 ($270 for members of EMFA and partner organizations)
MATERIALS: $50
This two-day workshop will introduce you to two techniques: transfer of digital images and encaustic. On day one you will learn the transfer process and have time to explore and refine your images. On day two you will explore the encaustic process, using images prepared in the transfer workshop, completing about three finished pieces.
Image transfers result in painterly images reminiscent of the Polaroid image transfer popularized in the 80’s and 90’s. In the transfer process, you will learn to create variety in your work by printing on different substrates, including, wood, fabric, and art papers.
The encaustic process has been in use by artists since early Egyptian times. It involves application of the heated medium to an image, giving it a tactile quality. Many contemporary photographers and other artists are using this process to create one-of-a-kind fine artworks.
